The ailing Indian economy is looking for a booster dose from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is going to unveil her first full Union Budget in Parliament at around 11 am, Saturday.

There are hopes that the minister may announce some major tax incentives to spur demand and revive market sentiment. The government may also open the tap for a large government spending to keep the growth engines purring.

Along with the Union Budget, the Finance Minister will also present the Rail Budget. Indian Railways saw a 1.85 per cent increase in passenger volumes and registered 5.34 per cent growth in freight volumes in 2018-19, while the consequential train accidents decreased to 41 from 59 on the previous year, Economic Survey 2019-20 said on Friday.

In 1991, Dr Manmohan Singh delivered the longest Budget speech in terms of words, comprising 18,650 words. Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley holds the record for the second-longest speech, comprising 18,604 words, delivered in 2017. The shortest speech comprising 800 words was delivered by HM Patel in 1977 when he presented the Interim Budget.
